6 St. Louis restaurants with great pizza

Pizza is one of those magical foods that nearly everyone likes – it’s up there with burgers and tacos. Here are a few places around town serving up some seriously good slices.

Pizzeoli
This locally owned pizzeria in historic Soulard is known for its signature Neapolitan-style flimsy center with char bubbles on the crust. It was recently listed on Yelp's Top 100 Pizza Spots in the US as #39 and the #1 Pizzeria for Neapolitan-ish Style Pizza in Missouri by the Washington Post. They use natural ingredients, including locally sourced dairy, meats and produce, and avoid seeds oils both in their fryers and sauces. There are also plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions. Stop in for a slice and some drinks, including handcrafted cocktails, Italian wine and local craft beer. Cozy and casual yet upscale, the ambiance is perfect for date night or group outings. Reservations are encouraged as limited seating is available.

Anthonino’s Taverna
Anthonino's Taverna takes their pizza very seriously, including gluten-free and vegan options. The hand-tossed crust from Marconi Bakery can be topped with a wide variety of ingredients, from gyro meat and classic pepperoni to fresh figs. Their high-quality mozzarella provides a creamy, mouthwatering cheese pull that will keep you going back for another slice. All ingredients are fresh and sourced locally as much as possible. You can conveniently find their frozen gourmet pizza at your local Schnucks. Next time you are craving pizza, head to Anthonino's for dine in, carryout or catering.

Blues City Deli
You may think of sandwiches when Blues City Deli comes to mind, but their frozen wood-fired pizza uses the same recipes as the now-closed Melo’s Pizza, meaning they’re incredibly delicious and sell out fast. The dough is made in-house using a Neapolitan recipe, and they use only the highest quality ingredients. The cheese and pepperoni pizzas are made with mozzarella, but the STL (Italian sausage and pepperoni) utilizes a delightful blend of Provel and mozzarella.
