4 St. Louis-area restaurants with great burgers

Burgers are believed by many to be the perfect food, and we at Sauce tend to agree they’re pretty high on the list. But with so many options in and around St. Louis, you may be wondering where to go. These four establishments have top-notch offerings:
5 Star Burgers
5 Star Burgers has been pioneering the St. Louis gourmet burger scene since opening in 2012. They only use all-natural, humanely raised, and Halal-certified Creekstone Farms Angus beef and grill all burgers to your desired temperature. In addition to a creative list of delicious beef burgers, they serve bison, turkey, chicken, fish and veggie burgers and sandwiches, a variety of freshly made salads, regular and sweet potato fries, shakes, floats, and a full bar complete with seasonal-driven cocktails. Their happy hour, a Sauce Magazine “Best in St. Louis,” runs every day of the week from 3 to 5 p.m. and features amazing deals on sliders, appetizers, local craft drafts and glasses of wine. Featured is the Blue Ribbon Burger – a grilled Creekstone beef burger topped with creamy gorgonzola cheese, crispy locally smoked bacon, port-braised red onions, all on a freshly baked egg bun – on the menu since 2012 and highlighted on Cooking Channel's hit show Food Paradise.

Anthonino’s Taverna
This popular spot on the Hill utilizes certified Angus beef on all its burgers, as well as the meatballs and toasted ravioli. Anthonino’s has several popular burgers, including two eponymous picks named after the owners. The Big Anthony burger is served on a garlic-cheese bun, with Provel and garlic butter and topped with gyro meat. The Big Rosario burger features sharp cheddar and crispy Volpi pancetta. All the burgers are charbroiled 8-ounce patties on Breadsmith buns and are served with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles from Two Men and a Garden.

Jack Nolen’s
This Soulard mainstay is famous for its smash burgers and is purported by many to have the best burgers in town. In addition to their single and double cheeseburgers, they even have a triple cheeseburger for those days you’re feeling famished. Along with their superlative burgers – The spicy Firecracker Burger, with jalepeno relish, pepper jack cheese, fire ranch, tomato and onion, is a top seller – they’ve also got fried chicken sandwiches, pesto grilled cheese, loaded fries and more. There’s live music on select evenings, so stay tuned on social media for details. And don’t miss out on the chill patio vibes.

Vangel's Restaurant
Vangel's Restaurant never intended to gain notoriety for its double smash burger, but they have, and these Marvel fans know that “with great power comes great responsibility.” After a year of business and thousands of burgers sold, the team members said to each other, “We can do this all day.” Rather than explaining the burger in great detail, they think you should come try it yourself. “What more could you lose?” The team thanks their customers for their incredible support over their first year in business. “We love you 3000,” they said. Vangel’s has a lot of other great food too for your dining companions who might rather opt out of the burger, including baked meatballs, arancini and pan-seared salmon.
