Avalanche pop-up bar returns to Work & Leisure in Midtown
The immersive ski lodge experience is back from Dec. 3-31
This holiday season, St. Louis is once again invited to experience winter magic with the return of Avalanche, the popular ski lodge-themed pop-up bar co-created by BradenSTL and taking place at Work & Leisure at 3015 Locust St. in Midtown St. Louis. Running select nights from Dec. 3 to 31, Avalanche transports guests to a cozy yet exhilarating snowy escape, offering a truly immersive experience complete with festive food, drinks, interactive games and much more.
After a wildly successful debut last year, Avalanche returns with even more exciting additions. “We wanted to create something that felt wintry and cozy, but also inclusive,” says Work & Leisure owner Jordan Renaud. “With so many people celebrating different holidays, we made sure the experience could welcome everyone. It’s all about that fireside feeling, with something for everyone to enjoy.”
The pop-up offers a diverse menu designed to please food and drink enthusiasts, with options to suit every palate. Whether you're craving gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan or hearty meat dishes, Avalanche delivers a variety of festive flavors. A standout is the Winter Squash Nosh Board, a mini charcuterie-style spread featuring seasonal ingredients like roasted winter squashes, cranberries, local honey, pecans, goat cheese and crackers. It's perfect for sharing and pairs beautifully with one of the specialty cocktails expertly crafted by project and beverage director Raven Weinrich. Signature drinks include It’s All Downhill From Here, a fresh twist on the classic hot toddy made with chai and house-made honey syrup, and It’s Snow Joke, a vegan coconut Coquito reimagined with white rum and warming spices for a cozy, seasonal feel.
The culinary offerings, created by the creative minds at The Table and Foodie Bistro, are designed to keep guests feeling warm and satisfied. Highlights include a savory pesto and gruyere grilled cheese served with comforting tomato sou, ideal for warming up after a day of “hitting the slopes.” For a heartier option, enjoy decadent brisket sliders or a robust vegetarian chili filled with seasonal vegetables and spices. And don’t miss the exclusive Blue Moon ice cream flavor, created by Clementine’s Ice Cream, topped with edible snowflake sprinkles, offering a sweet treat that’s the perfect finish to your meal.
Avalanche also invites guests to fully immerse themselves in the fun with handmade interactive games and playful extras. “We encourage guests to embrace the spirit of the event,” says Renaud. “Bust out your ski goggles, bring your friends, and enjoy the time together.” There are plenty of games, photo opportunities, and open seating designed to encourage mingling and fun.
But it’s not just about the atmosphere—it’s also about giving back to the community. “We feel lucky to have the opportunity to do something good for our community,” Renaud explains. “A portion of every ticket sold will support the St. Louis Diaper and Food Bank, helping those in need.”
To close out Avalanche, Work & Leisure will host a special New Year’s Eve Pajama Party on Dec. 31. From 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., guests are invited to ditch formal attire and slip into their coziest PJs for an unforgettable open-bar experience. Enjoy delicious appetizers served every half-hour, a prime rib slider station, a Belgian waffle station, and an omelet bar opening at midnight — all topped off with a Champagne toast. With games, a DJ, a balloon drop, and more, it’s a party you won’t want to miss.
Whether you're looking to snap a photo in the lodge, sip on a festive cocktail, or simply unwind in a cozy atmosphere, Avalanche offers a holiday experience like no other. Tickets for Avalanche and the New Year’s Eve Pajama Party are on the Work & Leisure website. More information on the charitable outreach from the St. Louis Diaper and Food Bank can be found online.
