Sugarfire Smoke House is the new food partner at Urban Chestnut in the Grove

The popular barbecue spot is on board for a six-month residency at the brewery

Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. is teaming up with Sugarfire Smoke House to bring Oktoberfest St. Louis to life at the brewery's location at 4465 Manchester Ave. in the Grove on Oct. 11 and 12. Sugarfire will begin a six-month residency following the festival, taking over the kitchen at UCBC's Grove Bierhall.

Sugarfire has carved out a niche in the St. Louis culinary scene with their award-winning brisket, pulled pork and creative daily specials. Founded by chef Mike Johnson, Carolyn Downs and Charlie Downs, the restaurant has earned a slew of local and national accolades over the years. Sugarfire’s innovative approach to barbecue draws inspiration from the top barbecue cities across the U.S., solidifying its status as a culinary cornerstone.

Urban Chestnut's Grove location is renown for its vibrant atmosphere and tradition-oriented, old-world brews. This collaboration with Sugarfire promises a to be a celebration of established legacy while raising a glass to new adventures through a marriage of flavors and atmosphere. “Partnering with Sugarfire Smoke House is a natural fit for us,” said Urban Chestnut co-founder Florian Kuplent in a statement. “They have a fantastic team and their commitment to quality aligns perfectly with our passion for crafting exceptional beer. We’re excited to expand the BBQ selection in the Grove and think this collaboration celebrates the best of St. Louis’ food and beverage scene.”

Sugarfire in the Grove will debut this weekend at Oktoberfest St. Louis, bringing festival-goers an Oktoberfest menu featuring giant Bavarian pretzels, smoked turkey legs, Polish sausages, Zwickel bratwursts, apple strudel, pumpkin pie and more. In addition to these Oktoberfest favorites, guests can also enjoy Sugarfire's famous pulled pork and smoked brisket sandwiches. Following the festival, Sugarfire will begin offering their smoked barbecue dishes alongside a rotating selection of German and European classics, as well as the New York-style pizza that has become a beloved staple at the Grove Bierhall.

The festival kicks off in the Bierhall on Friday, Oct. 11, at noon, before transitioning to the streets for an evening of fun on Friday and continuing all day Saturday. This year, the celebration extends to Midtown on Sunday with an Oktoberfest family day located in the Midtown Biergarten.
