Uncle Bill’s Pancake & Dinner House is closing next week

The St. Louis landmark will remain open until Oct. 8

One of St. Louis’ most popular diners will close on Oct. 8. The news of the closure of Uncle Bill’s Pancake & Dinner House at 3427 S Kingshighway Blvd., which has been open in St. Louis for over 60 years, began circulating on social media on Oct. 1.

A call from Sauce to the diner resulted in a few comments from waitress Sarah Smid, who has worked there for the past 20 years. “Our owner [William Choi] is 80 years old,” Smid said. “He said it’s time to retire and he just can’t do it financially anymore.”

Her mother had been a waitress for the restaurant for many years as well. “It’s pretty much like a second home, so I don’t know what I’m going to do,” she said. “We just found out today while he was giving the interview to a local news station. He told them before he told us. It sucks.”
