La Finca Coffee has opened a third location in downtown Washington

The newest La Finca location is a 10,000-square-foot space that combines its roasting operations with a cafe

Earlier this month, La Finca Coffee opened its third location in downtown Washington, at 109 W. Main St. Owned by husband and wife John and Alejandra Hagedorn, the coffee shop opened its flagship location in old town Eureka in 2018 and its second location in the Grove in 2022. In March of this year, the business moved its original Eureka location to a larger space on Central Avenue.

During that move this past spring, the team began the process of moving the roaster to its Franklin County store and slowly started to renovate the space. Coming in at around 10,000 square feet, the Washington location is home to the company’s roasting operations, as well as a cafe. And since guests can view the roasting as it’s happening, it’s helping to create an experience that isn’t found elsewhere in the area.

“People have been blown away by the food, and then they see the roaster,” Hagedorn said.

The Washington location features the breakfast items found on the Eureka menu like eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros and a breakfast burrito, along with the lunch selections of a Cuban sandwich, patacones, a Colombian dish that combines plantains topped with a tomato-onion sauce, empanadas and a chicken salad sandwich.

“We’re in the process of developing more things, but we’re focused on breakfast right now and we’d like to expand on that,” he said.

There’s also a selection of street tacos available for lunch. Guests can choose from birria or quesabirria tacos, the latter comes with melted cheese inside the birria-style taco, as well as chicken, al pastor and asada meat choices. Hagedorn said they’re tinkering with a few menu ideas, and may add breakfast tacos or chilaquiles.

The coffee menu features flavored lattes served hot or iced, cold brew, teas, including matcha, and seasonal specials that combine coffee with in-season flavors and ingredients.

The main level, which is around 8,000 square feet divided between three rooms, features a front counter area for ordering and seating for around 30 that includes booths, tables and bar-style seating that overlooks the roasting area located below, as well as a cozy couch that’s positioned across from a stone fireplace.

There’s another room directly behind the main area that offers a handful of round four-seat tables. Hagedorn said in the future, they’ll likely rent out that space for private events or use it to host coffee-centered events.

An additional room in the back features a pool table and a bar, as well as a deck that overlooks the Missouri River. Guests have access to those spaces as well, if they wish to play billards, or sit out on the deck.

The 2,000-square-ft basement is home to the company’s main roaster, and a second, smaller roaster may be added to the main floor so the team can do demonstrations and smaller batch roastings.

“In the future we may put tours together and go downstairs so people can see how the operation works,” Hagedorn said. “I want to show people the whole process of how we go from the green seed to a cup of coffee.”

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
