The Pat Connolly Tavern in Dogtown is seeking new ownership

The owner of the historic bar is looking to sell or lease the business to an investor

David Guller, the owner of The Pat Connolly Tavern, has announced that he is looking for a new owner of the business located at 6400 Oakland Ave. in Dogtown. The bar is a landmark in the community, and is named after its original owner, Pat Connolly, who opened the business in 1942.

Guller purchased the bar and assumed operations of the establishment last summer, and while he said the bar is in a much better position today than it was prior to his purchase, he’s now looking to pass the torch to someone else so he may pursue some other interests. Currently, Guller has no plans to close the business, nor does he have a fixed date in mind for when he hopes to find the pub’s new owner.

“I’m looking for a strong investor who wants to keep it going,” Guller said. “I’d love to continue to be involved as a landlord or through some sort of partnership.”

Guller declined to share his asking price for the pub, but said he’s flexible on the price and is open to the option of either selling or leasing the business to the right investor.

During his time as owner, Guller has made a few changes to the business, including adding a selection of Ted Drewes Frozen Custard to give the establishment a more family-orientated feel, due to its proximity to the zoo. He’s also laid the framework for expansion at the pub and wants to find an investor who will proceed with those plans.

Guller has applied for and received all the necessary permits and approvals from the city for this potential expansion. The plans for the addition have already been drawn up, and the covered patio would offer seating for 70 guests, feature a bar and heaters for the cooler months, as well as an ADA restroom in the patio area.
