St. Louis restaurant openings and closings: June 2024
Several beloved spots closed their doors last month
June was a busy month for openings, with the long planned for (4 Hands + Peacemaker and Bud’s Pizza and Beer) and the relatively unexpected (Brew Tulum) all opening their doors.
But despite their relatively fewer number, it was the closings that hit hard. Chef Rob Connoley’s decision to shutter his celebrated Bulrush at the top of its game was heartbreaking and his reason for doing so — Missouri’s anti-LGBTQIA+ politics — was heartrending. Maplewood’s beloved Boogaloo and its unique swing bar seating, the Taco and Ice Cream Joint, Spencer’s Grill, and the last bastion of Joanie’s are all no more — and will be sorely missed.
