Fielder’s Choice now open at Ballpark Village serving breakfast, salads, ice cream and more

Fielder’s Choice, a gleaming, fast-casual spot to eat, opened this morning in One Cardinal Way, the residential tower in Ballpark Village. No surprise in the color scheme: It’s a gleaming red and white space. One wall is papered with a giant photo of the old Busch Stadium, a column is painted in “baseball stitches.” The four easy chairs beneath the television are rather cleverly mitt-shaped.

At first glance, this looks to be primarily a breakfast spot. The display case is filled with bowls of different kinds of cream cheese, and a huge glistening slab of lox. There are Ess-A-Bagels out of New York City, doughnuts from Daylight Donuts, mini doughnuts from a mini doughnut machine, smoothies and delicious-looking things like acai bowls and avocado toast. Waffles were coming out of the kitchen, as well. Not bad for the first 30 minutes of business. Lunchtime definitely calls for a salad, and this is a build-your-own situation with myriad combinations. But morning, noon and night definitely call for an ice cream or a float, or an affogato (ice cream with an espresso pour-over).

Owner Amy Lowery technically can be said to work from home since she and her family live on the 15th floor of One Cardinal Way, directly above. They moved to the building about a year ago. Before that, they lived in Herculaneum, Missouri, near their other business, Pine Mountain Country Coffee House & Mercantile in Festus.

“This is a dream,” Lowery said, moments after the ribbon cutting. She was dressed in red and white, which seemed perfectly fitting of this occasion taking place in the shadow of Busch Stadium. “I love baseball. I love the Cardinals.”

Fielder’s Choice is 1,500 square feet and has seating for 30. It will open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
