Hwy 61 Roadhouse owners open Hwy 61 North Bar & Grill in O’Fallon, Missouri

O’Fallon, is home to the newest member of the Hwy 61 Roadhouse family, as reported by St. Louis Magazine. Located at 3002 Winghaven Blvd. in the former Stef's Pizza, Hwy 61 North Bar & Grill is the cousin to the original Hwy 61 Roadhouse location that has earned its place as a Webster Groves staple since it opened in 2006, according to co-owner Michael Skordos.

New to the restaurant scene, spouses Michael Skordos and Crystal Obrien purchased Hwy 61 Roadhouse from longtime owner Bill Kunz in May 2022. After updating the flagship location with a refurbished stage, new seating and tables, and an expanded display of TVs, Michael and Crystal were ready to set their sights on a second, smaller location closer to their home.

Sitting just across the highway from the Missouri Rush Soccer Club, Hwy 61 North takes on an identity unique unto itself. Michael, a retired teacher and soccer coach, explained the vision for the new, sportier iteration was inspired by his childhood. He describes being a kid in the mid-’70s and going out to eat with his family at a pub in the Jamestown Mall. "I just remember on Saturday nights, you know, you got your little basket of burgers and fries. You could bring the family, and there was music also going on," he recalls. "I want people to go out on Saturday nights, still be able to catch the game on TV, listen to a little bit of music, and have a beverage with your friends."

The space is just under 2,000 square feet with 12 tables inside and another 12 tables on the patio. Outfitted with a traditional bar, a patio and TVs playing all the essential St. Louis sports matches, Hwy 61 North makes an ideal destination for anyone looking to experience live music, St. Louis sports or just plain good food.

Roadhouse staples like barbecue spaghetti and gumbo landed Hwy 61 Roadhouse a feature spot on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2013Despite early concerns that the change in ownership would usher in a new menu, Michael and Crystal assure us that they are not looking to reimagine the award-winning Roadhouse offerings, although the menus do vary a bit between locations.

The menu at Hwy 61 North features a spread of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and flatbread pizza. Exclusive to the new location is a selection of Greek offerings – gyros, gyro flatbreads and croquettes – an homage to the Skordoses’ Greek heritage, Michael said. If you are feeling nostalgic for Roadhouse classics, rest assured that staples from the original menu like smoked wings, red beans and rice, pulled pork and Roadhouse fries are available at Hwy 61 North as well. The new restaurant currently offers carryout with plans to offer delivery in the future.

Live music has been a pillar of the Roadhouse experience since the beginning, and Hwy 61 North plans to continue that legacy. "We love the live music," the couple explained, adding that music was one of the aspects that initially attracted them to the business. Diners and sports spectators can enjoy acoustic performances featuring solo artists on Thursdays and duos on Saturdays, with music also planned for occasional Fridays sometime in the future.

Hwy 61 North opens at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday, closing at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 10 p.m. the other days. Follow Hwy 61 Roadhouse Facebook page for all the latest details on a grand opening party, sporting event ticket giveaways and announcements.
