In an effort to raise funds for Pedal the Cause, which works year-round to fundraise for innovative cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, more than 100 St. Louis restaurants and retailers are taking part in A World Without Cancer Day on Friday, Aug. 2, to support this mission. The participating businesses will donate a portion of their sales to support Pedal the Cause, the nonprofit that hosts A World Without Cancer Day on the first Friday of August each year.

“It is our 15th year, and we are thrilled to have an incredibly diverse array of partners supporting our mission on A World Without Cancer Day,” David Drier, executive director of Pedal the Cause, said in a release. “From St. Charles to St. Louis city to Edwardsville, A World Without Cancer Day is providing the support we need as an organization to keep raising funds to kick-start critical adult and pediatric cancer research projects. We couldn’t be more grateful to our wonderful restaurant owners and retail partners for their generosity, and for our tremendous St. Louis regional community who have joined us on the road to end cancer.”

Some of the participants include 4 Hands Brewing Co., Napoli Cafe, Fitz’s Root Beer, Pastaria, Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Co. and more. For a list of participating partners, visit pedalthecause.org/a-world-without-cancer-day.

“Fitz’s has been a proud supporter of Pedal the Cause since 2012,” Michael Alter, owner and president of Fitz’s Root Beer, said in a release. “Funding cancer research is so critical, which is why we give back and why I personally ride every year. Pedal the Cause is a St. Louis organization that is making real impact in the fight against cancer, and we are very proud to partner with them for A World Without Cancer Day and beyond.”

At 8 a.m. on August 2, St. Charles Mayor Dan Borgmeyer and St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann will appear at Novellus in St. Charles with Pedal the Cause and beneficiary leadership, and officially declare the day “A World Without Cancer Day” in St. Charles city and County. Similar declarations will be issued in St. Louis city and St. Louis County.

Following A World Without Cancer Day is the Pedal the Cause weekend, which takes place on Sept. 21 and 22.
