Gerard Craft’s Expat BBQ is hosting pop-ups ahead of opening at City Foundry STL later this year
Get a taste of what to expect from Expat BBQ, a new globally inspired concept from Gerard Craft’s Niche Food Group set to open at City Foundry STL in Midtown later this year, at a series of pop-ups taking place this spring. The events will be held at Urban Chestnut Midtown Brewery and Biergarten at 3229 Washington Ave., where Niche’s Brass Burger is currently operating.
The Expat BBQ menu will feature dishes created by executive chef Sam Nawrocki and his team utilizing American barbecue techniques on a variety of cuisines from around the world. All pop-ups begin at 11 a.m.
Saturday, April 20
Expect St. Louis Style-ribs rubbed with a housemade five spice that are smoked for five hours and doused with Baiju whiskey barbecue sauce, then topped with chile crisp.
Saturday, May 4
This event features brisket sandwiches made with chipotle in adobo, avocado salsa verde and cilantro, and coincides with the Biergarten’s first day of Maifest celebrations, which includes live music and the release of UCBC's Maibock Bier. As part of the brewery’s annual “Raise a Pint for Pets” campaign in partnership with Purina, bring your dog to the Biergarten with you that day for specials on Urban Underdog Lager draft pours.
Sunday, May 26
At the final event in the series, there will be pulled pork sandwiches prepared with a Vietnamese “hogwash,”ginger pickles and Thai basil.
In addition, you can get a preview of one of Niche’s other forthcoming concepts, a revival of Porano in Des Peres, at two upcoming events. Try some of the pasta dishes at the Creve Coeur location of Nudo House at 11423 Olive Blvd. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21. The full menu will be revealed at Wild Carrot at 3901 Shaw Blvd. in St. Louis from noon to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2.
