Soup and sandwich shop Good Buddy’s will open in downtown St. Louis

The owners of Devil’s Delights Catering are bringing their expertise to the restaurant business. Co-owners Justin Gibson and brothers Nathan and Luke Ragain plan to open Good Buddy’s Tasty Soups & Sandwiches on June 1 at 1115 W. Pine St. in downtown St. Louis.

Nathan Ragain said the menu includes seven or eight basic sandwiches featuring specialty cheeses and sauces that will be constants on the menu, but the restaurant will also offer about 10 “off-the-wall” sandwiches at any given time. Ragain said they are still tinkering with ideas for the sandwiches, but one is inspired by Italian carpaccio.

The menu also includes rotating house-made soups featuring local produce. “I can’t really find a good soup anywhere; many places use premade or canned soup,” Ragain said.

The restaurant is cozy, seating about 25 patrons inside and 10 more outside in nice weather. The name was inspired by the close relationship between Gibson and the brothers. “We’ve always called each other good buddies; that’s what we are to each other,” Ragain said.

The three have been looking to get into the restaurant business in their hometown for a few years. “We have 50 years of experience in the business between the three of us … everything just clicked, and it was time,” he said.
