The Scoop: Musician Steve Ewing gets the urge to open brick-and-mortar hot dog joint

082211_StevesFor nearly the last three years, Steve Ewing, a musician whom many may remember as the front face for local band The Urge that held popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, has been operating a mobile hot dog cart called Steve’s Hometown Hot Dogs. Now, Ewing is taking a bigger bite into the food biz with the opening of brick-and-mortar hot dog joint Steve’s Hot Dogs on The Hill. The restaurant, to be located at 2131 Marconi Ave., will offer hickory-smoked, fire-grilled dogs, at least eight types of sausages, sandwiches such as smoked brisket and smoked turkey, soups and chili. Manning the kitchen will be Joseph Zeable, whom Ewing praises for his “awesome smoked brisket,” and Scott Turner. Upon a grand opening, scheduled for September 17, Steve’s Hot Dogs on The Hill will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information about Ewing’s hot dog eatery, visit its Facebook page. Ewing will be dissolving his food cart business by the end of the year.
