Basil India opens in Tower Grove South serving up Asian fusion cuisine

Basil India opened mid-July in Tower Grove South at 3183 South Grand Blvd. The space was previously occupied by Basil Spice Thai Cuisine. The restaurant has been renovated with a modified kitchen and seating area, and a completely new menu. Co-owner Naveen Kumar decided to go into business with Basil Spice owner Somying Fox (who is a co-owner of Basil India), because she has nearly two decades of experience in the restaurant business.

“Somying helped us develop the Thai dishes, and we used her experiences in the business to help make decisions,” Kumar explained. “At Basil India, we hand-pick our menu to serve Asian fusion cuisine,” he continued. “Since this particular location is famous for Asian restaurants, we decided to cater to people looking for Thai, Indian and Chinese dishes.” Some of their most popular menu items include tom yum soup, chicken fried rice, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and chicken vindaloo.

“Among vegetarian items, corn cream cake sells a lot,” Kumar said. “The flakey naan is also popular, thanks to our chef for adding a twist to the Malabar parotta.” They source their fresh ingredients from farmers markets whenever possible, including Soulard Market and from local vendors. “It depends on the day, and it depends on the needs,” Kumar said.

Basil India is open Thursday through Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for lunch and dinner (closed on Wednesdays). Basil India is offering dine in, carryout, and they accept online and phone orders.
