9 fabulous patios (mostly) in Lafayette Square

The beautiful historical district of Lafayette Square may be small, but it boasts a mighty repertoire of businesses, from a lauded cocktail bar and a legendary wine spot to a few killer date night locations. The brunch and lunch games here are also strong; in fact, you can get through a whole day’s worth of food and drink (and then some) within the span of a few blocks.

Lafayette Square follows Central West End, Webster Groves, Chesterfield and South City in our patio series. Read on for some of our favorites in this part of town.

33 Wine Shop & Bar

33 Wine is an OG in the local wine game. From the massive bottle list and killer whiskey selection to an impossibly cool vibe, 33’s where you want to be. And the back patio is epic. 1913 Park Ave., 314.231.9463, 33wine.com

Square One Brewery

It’s a brewery! It’s a distillery! It’s a restaurant! Whether you’re craving classic bar food or Sunday brunch, Square One Brewery consistently proves they can do it all, from cinnamon rolls to nightcaps.

Planter’s House
Planter’s House is a cocktail haven with a massive list of super creative beverages. If you’re not in that zone, go with a classic cocktail, wine or even a beer. Just make sure you pair it with some dill fries.

Eleven Eleven Mississippi
Enticing Tuscan cuisine? Check. Nice wine list? Check. Outside seating? Check. It’s not Italy, but on the right evening, it could feel like that.

The Bellwether
The Bellwether isn’t technically in Lafayette Square, but you can see it from Lafayette Square, so we’re just going with it. Their outdoor dining situation is iconic.

Mayo Ketchup
Mayo Ketchup’s patio is small; it’s just a few tables on a corner overlooking Lafayette Park. But we don’t care – we’d eat those plantains anywhere.

Vin de Set
This rustic French bistro has all the wine, bites and views you could want. What’s better than enjoying a glass of sparkling wine or a Sazerac on a rooftop patio on a cool evening? Let us know if you think of anything.

These spots are currently under construction, but no list of the area’s patios would be complete without them.

Sqwires Restaurant
Sqwires has a menu for basically any kind of meal you can conceive of, from breakfast to happy hour to barbecue. Their patio is presently under construction, but they still have some outdoor tables; check back in a few weeks to (hopefully) visit their new digs.

Baileys' Chocolate Bar
This dessert and martini bar has been one of Lafayette Square’s most steadfast romantic spots for almost 20 years. Though it’s currently closed for renovations, owner Dave Bailey promises it will reopen soon, complete with a beautiful landscaped patio. When those doors finally do open, you should probably go visit. You know, for your sweet tooth.
