5 St. Louis shops offering special Hanukkah treats to light up your holiday table

Hanukkah, also called the Festival of Lights, begins at sundown this Thursday, Dec 10. The Jewish holiday celebrates the ancient Jewish people’s rebuilding of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, during which a small amount of oil is believed to have miraculously burned for eight days. Classic Hanukkah treats like potato latkes (a fritter-like pancake) and doughnuts called sufganiyot are thus traditionally eaten during Hanukkah to commemorate this miracle, along with other traditional Jewish foods like challah, rugelach and kugel (a sweet or savory noodle dish).

Here are five St. Louis spots offering special treats to make your Hanukkah celebration extra festive this year.

Clementine’s Creamery
Clementine’s created sufganiyot, rugelach and challah bread pudding ice cream flavors just in time for the Hanukkah season. Both the sufganiyot and challah bread pudding flavors are collaborations with local businesses: The sufganiyot combines an olive oil ice cream with a raspberry swirl and doughnut chunks from Vincent Van Doughnut, while the challah bread pudding, featuring Irish cream and caramel ice cream with chunks of challah bread budding, is made with Companion Bakery bread.
