Upshot Coffee opens second location in St. Charles

Fans of Cottleville’s Upshot Coffee can now get their fix in historic downtown St. Charles. The new spot is in a remodeled brake shop located at 816 N. Kingshighway St. and is appropriately billed Upshot Coffee Brake Shop. They opened for service on July 27.

“[We’re trying] to let people know that we heard that they want us in more places,” said co-owner Conor VanBuskirk.  “We’re going to try to make that easier for them ’cause we’re excited to give them a location to support.”

Highlights of the drink menu include a variety of coffee- and tea-based beverages such as brewed coffee, espresso, matcha tonics and flavored lattes, among others. Like the original location, Upshot has collaborated with sister company Beets & Boneswhich VanBuskirk also co-owns, to offer a plethora of juices and broths, like the Pear Up juice or their organic, free-range chicken broth. Additionally, the St. Charles location has a similar menu to the original location featuring food items made in-house such as breakfast burritos, avocado toast, and biscuits and gravy.

“I think we offer incredible food at a coffee shop,” VanBuskirk said. “Nick Zotos is ... overseeing all of that, along with overseeing all the amazing things with Beets & Bones … so it’s just been a way to really diversify what we do and bring a few things underneath one roof that we think people are looking for and they’re not able to get in our neighborhood.” Zotos is co-owner and executive chef at Beets & Bones.

The space has roughly 50 seats and is currently open for dine-in service at 50% capacity. In the coming weeks, they will complete construction on a patio space that will add an additional 40 seats. The new location is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Upshot Coffee is also currently taking reservations for an upcoming pop-up dinner series. Information regarding reservations can be found here
