Sauce supports St. Louis food industry by offering free digital ads

Sauce Magazine, the only independent culinary publication in St. Louis, has announced it will give free advertising space on its digital platform to any bar, restaurant or food industry operation that needs a boost during the COVID-19 crisis.

The offer begins Friday, April 24, and will run through the duration of the shutdown, including any future extensions.

“This is a one-stop page that allows the public to easily view all the special promotions across the region instead of going to each individual website or calling each outlet to see what they’re offering,” explained Allyson Mace, founder and publisher of Sauce Magazine.

But that’s not the only public support coming from Sauce. “Like everyone else right now, we’ve had to pivot our resources to meet the new reality,” Mace continued. “So we’ve repurposed our groundbreaking online restaurant guide to direct people instead to the most updated information on every restaurant and bar offering takeout or curbside food and beverages across the city.

"And for now, the magazine is operating only online and with only one coverage point: coronavirus and how it is impacting the people and places we usually write up for their latest mouthwatering plate or ingenious cocktail,” said Mace.

Sauce also has created a Facebook group page where St. Louisans can learn how area restaurants, bars and other food and drink establishments are adapting their services to the challenges of COVID-19. The site also functions as a watering hole for current news impacting the hospitality industry.

And the magazine has launched a new column online, "Checking in with..." (click here to read the most recent column on Taco Circus chef and co-owner Christian Ethridge) which profiles individual restaurant and bar owners, chefs, waiters, bartenders, brewers and wine-makers, as well as purveyors and farmers up and down the local supply chain on how they are doing both professionally and personally during the pandemic.

“Normally, my staff’s hard work to make all of that happen would come with a salary earned from selling ads but, since no one can afford that right now, it only makes sense to sustain our community with free ads,” Mace explained. “My whole aim is to put a local face on this crisis while giving my support and love – because we’re all in this together."
