Extra Brut closes to make way for Bemiston Cocktail Club

Clayton is losing a Champagne bar but gaining a cocktail lounge. As reported by St. Louis Magazine, Extra Brut, the bubbles-centric watering hole at 16 S. Bemiston Ave. from the team behind Louie’s Wine Dive, closed on Friday, Feb. 15.

Louie’s Wine Dive marketing director Jeremy Hogan said the space will reopen as Bemiston Cocktail Club in April.

“We had a great run, but we got to the point where we weren’t making the best use of the space,” Hogan said.

Extra Brut opened in August 2017 as a speakeasy-style wine bar next-door to its sister restaurant. Sauce reviewed it in January 2018.

As the name implies, the new concept will be cocktail-focused with a 10-drink list and specials like a rotating shot and beer combo. “The goal is to get a craft cocktail for a reasonable price in a reasonable amount of time,” Hogan said.

To that end, the bar will have some cocktails on tap and some batched. There will also be a small selection of beer and wine and a food menu of small bites, including items like mini chili dogs and a variety of tater tot options.
