First Look: Kingside Diner in Clayton

Fans of Kingside Diner in the Central West End can now indulge in their favorite diner dishes the next time they’re in Clayton. The latest location of Kingside opened on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 8025 Bonhomme Ave., the former home of Parigi.

The Clayton menu is identical to the Central West End location, with high-quality takes on breakfast favorites like chicken and waffles, slingers and omelets, along with the Beyond Breakfast section featuring a variety of sandwiches and flatbreads, among other items. The new Kingside will share specials with the original location as well.

The change from fine dining destination to upscale casual eatery took just over two months. Owner Aaron Teitelbaum said he got the keys Nov. 1 and immediately began the transformation, which included restructuring the kitchen and switching out furniture and light fixtures.

The new interior is resplendent in black and white in keeping with the chess theme of the original restaurant, as well as a nod to classic diner decor. A wall of windows offers a view of Shaw Park and allows plenty of natural light to suffuse the space.

“We want it to be comfortable for everyone,” Teitelbaum said of the Kingside vibe.

Kingside Diner is open daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Teitelbaum said he’ll introduce another concept in the space, dubbed Kingside After Dark, on Friday, Feb. 1, that will offer cocktails and desserts for the evening crowd.
